Introduction
The ' Friends' was founded in Shrewsbury, Shropshire in 1983.
Friends raise money to assist the Museums to achieve projects that without extra financial support they would find difficult. This has mainly involved assisting the purchase of significant pictures, ceramics and other museum items for display. The Friends have also assisted the purchase of display cases and computer.
Several members of the Friends help the museums as volunteers, assisting with the care and documentation of particular collections.
Aims and Objects
The education and enlightenment of the public by promotion support, assistance and improvement of the Museums administered by Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council.
The ' Friends' is a registered charity.
Members Privileges
Members of the Friends have free admission to each of the museums. They are invited to the opening of all special exhibitions and private views. In addition the 'Friends ' organises a programme of talks, excursions and other activities and distributes a magazine called Collections in Spring and Autumn to publicise these . Members have voting rights at the Annual General Meeting.
